Tommy Hilfiger Releases Their Spring 2018 Adaptive Collection Campaign


For people with disabilities dressing up isn’t an easy task. Simple tasks such as putting on a shirt, zipping up the jeans, securing buttons is a difficult function with the current normal clothing collection available. The clothes made for the normal population don’t even fit them well and most brands ignore this community despite the fact that 20 percent of people in the United States have disability.

We are happy to know that there is one mainstream brand who is trying to make fashion more inclusive. Back in 2016, Tommy Hilfiger worked with Runway of Dreams, a non-profit organisation that has an aim of making fashion more accessible for the disabled, to launch an adaptive clothing collection for children with disabilities. This project by Tommy Hilfiger was first of its kind. This adaptive clothing features modified details such as magnetic buttons, adjustable hems,bungee-cord and Velcro-brand closures and now also includes apparels for men and women.

Hilfiger said in a statement to CNN- “Inclusivity and the democratization of fashion have always been at the core of my brand’s DNA”. This collection aims to empower the differently abled to have a chance to express themselves through fashion.

Hilfiger’s Spring 2018 adaptive collection was released on Tuesday. This collection’s campaign gets several influencers, athletes, and disability rights advocates in the spotlight. Jeremy Campbell a Paralympian gold medallist wore jeans with a magnetic hem, providing a wide opening that aids in adjusting his prosthesis.  Dancer striped dress and Blogger Mama Cāx’s  trench coat featured hidden magnetic closure.

This is an easy step for the large brands to make the people with disabilities more included in the whole community. We hope to see other designers and brands to cater more options in the coming time.
